Insulation Tax Credits

There's been a lot of information going around about the Economic Stimulus Plan, officially called the "American Recovery and Reinvestment Act," and the tax credits that have been recently signed into law. Businesses and homeowners now have even more reason to start saving energy and money with insulation.

Tax Deductions for Homeowners

The U.S. economic stimulus package has increased the previous tax credit for home improvements from 10 percent to 30 percent of the cost, and increased the maximum amount of the credit from $500 to $1,500. Read more at the Energy Star web site.

Don't forget that this is a TAX CREDIT, which provides a bigger tax break than a tax deduction.

Individuals who purchase and install products including home insulation, heating and cooling equipment, roofing, doors and energy efficient windows will be eligible for this tax break. The energy tax credit is for home improvements that are placed in service during 2009 and 2010. Contact us to learn more about how to save with insulation.

Tax Deductions for Commercial Buildings

A tax deduction of up to $1.80 per square foot is available to owners or designers of new or existing commercial buildings that save at least 50% of the heating and cooling energy of a building that meets ASHRAE Standard 90.1-2001. Partial deductions of up to $.60 per square foot can be taken for measures affecting any one of three building systems: the building envelope, lighting, or heating and cooling systems. These tax deductions are available for systems "placed in service" from January 1, 2006 through December 31, 2013.
